L.A. Romantic
There is an internal landscape, a geography of the soul; we search for its outlines all our lives. Those who are lucky enough to find it ease like water over a stone, onto its fluid contours, and are home.
— Damage, Josephine Hart
L.A. Romantic is a self portrait. A paean to pieces and places that are intensely personal. Too often, people dismiss my hometown. But I see an expansive city, as diverse and sublime as any in the world. In this work, I honor my ancestors, immigrants from very different places, who came to this Mecca for its promise and opportunity — two families who made this place home. This story is not uncommon. But this version is mine. I hope in these pictures, others will see the beauty I find around every corner in the city of angels.

Went here with my dad. We looked at the corner apartment, and I also loved the one next to it in the recess, with a balcony (read: fire escape) and heavy molding draping over it. Magical.
And he said, “you know, downtown Los Angeles is the last major American city west of the Mississippi that still has yet to gentrify.”
He insisted it was the corner unit or bust. That was just him, all over. They ended up reverting to rentals but I’ve never forgotten this dream.
